Meet the Artisan
Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at 8:45AM Artisan: Pascual Tum Xocom
Hometown: La Nueva Santa Catarina Ixtahuacan
Pascual Tum Xocom has been weaving for 36 years. He learned how to weave by as an apprentice to one of my father's friends. When he got married he bought his own loom and started weaving at home. He taught his wife, children, and son in law how to weave. Today, his family helps him weave. His favorite type of weave is weaving fabric rolls. He has been working for Ketzali Accessories for two months and works mostly with the Rayon and Cotton. Of all of the products that Pascual has made while working for Ketzali, he likes the white open weave collection which is new to production and will be available in the coming months. Pascual weaves from 6:00 a.m until 4:00 p.m. when there are orders to make. On average he produces 5-6 scarves per day and 5 meters of fabric per day.
Pascual and his wife have 10 children, 4 of which are married themselves. He has a total of 7 grandchildren. When not working for Ketzali, he uses his pickup truck as a shuttle to drive people that don’t have cars where they need to go.

When asked “What wishes do you have for Ketzali?”: “I hope Ketzali prospers and becomes a bigger company that can help many artisans like me. I like that they pay fair payment. I have work[ed] with other companies and they do not even pay. I want to continue working with Ketzali so I can buy a piece of land and build a home.”
